Virtual Autopsy Table
It’s not pretty, and certainly not for the fainted hearted…
But I can’t be nothing but amazed at this visualization project.
Some years ago it was the ‘Visible Human Project‘ that both socked us, but also amazed us and help us see and learn a whole lot about the contents of our bodies, today I came across The Virtual Autopsy Table, an interactive installation, where users can freely interact with stunning volumetric 3D datasets acquired via start of the art medical imaging technics of real scanned human bodies. The result is simply amazing:

the problem I find with this type of solution is the user position.
notice that the people operating the “table” are standing up with the arms stretched, so the table is pretty low, and that means that they have to tilt their heads downwards.
That is not a very comfortable position.
I have yet to find a demo of a touch-based system that is comfortable to use for long periods of time.
True, Pedro,
couldn’t agree more, I can’t imagine myself working as much as we do currently using touch-based systems while standing, it’s nice for short term usages, but not more than that.
On the same hand, remember how architects and designers used to work not long ago, their desks weren’t horizontal or vertical as this first prototypes suggest, but rather in between and adaptable so that your working area is actually still in your front but in a more ergonomic position, right?
In any case, I can see ourselves develop way more parts of arms than just the wrists
