Use the force…

Mattel just released a new game entitled Mindflex, that you can see above… the craziness about it, is that it’s based on you controlling a floating ball with your mind as it navigate through hoops, cages, and hurdles on a circular track!

I say… it’s the force! :D

15 days to SHiFT’08

SHiFT 08 is about to roll out!

SHiFT - Social and Human Ideas For Technology

After some hard working months we’re happy with all the amazing Speakers that once again decided to come to Lisbon and help us decide on the role of technology in todays society.

SHiFT will take place during 3 days (15-17 Oct), this year theme is about transient technologies and how technology is shifting from it’s traditional boundaries, becoming progressively more transparent and ubiquitous, and being deeply integrated into almost all aspects of everyday lives.

We want SHiFT to be a happening not only in Portugal but thru Europe, and although we’re really close to the dates, we still have some last minute ‘helpers’ that might just persuade you to join us:

  • A 20% discount over the normal price (use code: shift08t2a79548a)
  • we’re still accepting sessions and demos, so take your chance and present something.
  • In case you’re flying over, we’ve gathered some discounts with the portuguese airliner and some nice hotels too.
  • Last, but not least we’re giving away a Golden Ticket, all you have to do is spread the word and enjoy an even bigger discount.

Hope to see you all at SHiFT ;)

LIFTing II

Following my first day short notes and even now that I should probably be sleeping before my early flight back do Lisbon, I couldn’t resist and put up some more of my rought-notes about LIFT’s second dayt.

Disclaimer 1: I just wanted to confess that I was quite tired which implied that my attention span was, hum… somehow less than ideal. I didn’t even listened to all the day presentation’s somehow Skype back-channel seemed so cosy! ;)

Disclaimer 2: as all personal notes, this ones also reflect my own thoughts about some of the conference presentations and as such they shouldn’t be taken literally! ;)

Life’s a Passage…

Passage

Today i came across an amazing ode to life in the shape of a game – Passage, as in real life, you can only move forward, and time is a limited resource, we know we’ll die in the end, that’s the only thing certain in the game. Seems a bit sad of course, but the simplicity of it and at the same time the easiness as one engages in the game is unique and certainly a matter that could be applied to a whole lot of other developments as Mark Hurst suggest in his newsletter and by which I came across this special game.

One of the things I found particular disturbing at the beggining the fact that I could only see a tiny fraction of the ‘maze’, and only after reading the author notes it made all the sense, like in life one can only disclose a small part of all that surrounds us, all those things in life that are there for us to see, but paths and decisions that we take, may allow us to see them or not, it’s really up to you and in the end, all the decisions count.

Passage

For everyone out there, you should really play it, simple, powerfull and in the end truly amazing and inspirational!
Thanks Jason!
