This past year was, hum… different to say the least.
The Quality and Usability project that I’ve been delivering at SAPO turned out to be much more than I can dreamed about, both in learning and work return. Truth must be told that I’ve exhausted myself in work, and the rest didn’t exactly follow along: neither financially, nor in personal terms. By taking more work I’ve not only lost the financial ability to provide extra income to my family but I’ve also reduced the amount of quality time I allocated to personal and family matters. If it wasn’t something that I’ve come to realize that I love to do, I’m sure that I had drop it long ago.
Some sort of change was in order, which is good, you need to constantly find what’s bugging you and fix it! I’m used to change, it’s something I’ve learned during this past 12 years working on the web: how to cope with change!
For those who truly know me, know for a long time that I’ve dreamed and wished to work abroad for a longtime, but they also know that for almost as long I’ve fought that need in a more or less idealistic way (trust me all the odds financially and of opportunities always pointed the other way around). I’ve stayed and worked against all odds in Portugal.
Today I’m faced with the inevitable, I’ve received what I consider a life changing proposal and for the sake of myself and my family I can’t simply look the other way around and pretend that nothing happened as has happened before… result I’m now filled with doubts and reasonings about why I should and shouldn’t take it, why I should and shouldn’t move abroad!
One thing is certain today, 2008 ends in a changing chapter… and 2009 seems like an endless list of possibilities! Starting with the question of should I stay or should I go?

<HEAD>, the global web conference starts today!
it’s just starting!
I met Aral Balkan (the mentor / organizer) last february at LIFT and at the time the idea of having a conference entirely global and online happening live in multiple places in the world seem daunting, 8 months into the future and giant step has been achieve, <HEAD> is here and starts today
< HEAD> features 76 international speakers and will boost an equal number of presentations, not only online but also on pre arranged ‘hubs’ in a multitude of cities. It’s global, and yet green!

A few days back I arranged a collective viewing back at the office for the latest Jared Spool virtual seminar’s: “Strike Up the Brand: How Smart Design Can Strengthen Your Brand“. I can’t say I wasn’t a bit disappointed in terms of content, but could simply be because it was the very first one I’ve assisted, or for all the reverence I have for his work or even more simply to the fact that we were watching it live in late afternoon here.
Today i came across an amazing ode to life in the shape of a game – Passage, as in real life, you can only move forward, and time is a limited resource, we know we’ll die in the end, that’s the only thing certain in the game. Seems a bit sad of course, but the simplicity of it and at the same time the easiness as one engages in the game is unique and certainly a matter that could be applied to a whole lot of other developments as Mark Hurst suggest in his newsletter and by which I came across this special game.
One of the things I found particular disturbing at the beggining the fact that I could only see a tiny fraction of the ‘maze’, and only after reading the author notes it made all the sense, like in life one can only disclose a small part of all that surrounds us, all those things in life that are there for us to see, but paths and decisions that we take, may allow us to see them or not, it’s really up to you and in the end, all the decisions count.
For everyone out there, you should really play it, simple, powerfull and in the end truly amazing and inspirational!
Thanks Jason!
Infamous Dannie tag me on this and, as if that wasn’t bad enough, she actually predicted that I would ignore it (which I would most certainly!). But since she ‘tagged me’ so politely I’ve decided to go against the odds, and accept the challenge!
Just arrived my '#Rework' by Jason Fried & David Hansson, first impression: looks very promissing! Or could just be my corporate exposure! [pedrocustodio]
